Lice, What to look for:
When I see a child unconsciously scratching furiously behind one ear I automatically suspect head lice is the cause. Unfortunately schools don't teach the signs of head lice and it often goes undetected until it's a full blown case. By then the infested child has usually spread head lice to the rest of her classmates. You really can't fault the school nurses, they are overwhelmed with the sheer volume of new cases of head lice popping up every day. Incessant scratching is the first sign. Redness behind the ears which testifies to out of control scratching in the past is also a tell tale sign of head lice.
